What To Expect
Psychotherapy is a process that helps clients understand and resolve their problems by increasing awareness of their inner world and its influence over relationships both past and present. Psychodynamic psychotherapy differs from most other therapies in that the aim is often for deep seated change in personality and emotional development. The therapy aims to help clients to understand and change complex, entrenched and often unconsciously driven emotional and relational problems, thereby reducing symptoms, alleviating distress with the aim of leading a more fulfilling and satisfying life.

Many people who feel a loss of meaning in their lives, struggle with a negative sense of self, or who are seeking a greater sense of fulfillment and satisfaction may be helped by this approach. The overarching goal is one of exploration and working through to release the shackles of the past and to help you to live more authentically. This style of therapy can be longer, and more in depth than some therapy approaches, but I believe it can also be inherently more rewarding in the long term. Although we cannot change your past, we can change how the past continues to affect you.

My name is Dr Paul Lenny and I believe that our childhood, for better or worse, shaped us in every way to be the person we have become. It is why I have chosen to offer a therapy style to adults (18+) that I believe is well-suited to help us all understand and work through our past, to change how it is affecting us in the present, and to potentially lead to a more satisfying and fulfilling future. Many clients are fearful of being in a relationship or being parents themselves given their own childhood experiences. Having intimate relationships tends to stir up deeply ingrained problematic patterns, which can negatively affect the person, the relationship, or the whole family system. I particularly enjoy working with potential parents or current parents to help them work through and resolve their concerns about the parent they believe they are, or fear they will become, and to guide them towards being the parent they truly want to be. Please note that I do not do any Family Court work and do not do medico-legal assessments or reports. I am equally comfortable working with all genders and relationships. My aim is to help you to become more emotionally attuned to yourself, your needs, your communication style, and to find healthier ways of relating to your partners and other loved ones, and wherever possible, to break the chains of intergenerational patterns and trauma.
